If you’ve been around the Wharton area for a while, you might remember when my father, Bill, first opened the doors to Custom Computer Systems back in 1984. He started it out of a real practical need while running Wharton Fertilizer Service in Burr, assembling PCs and writing custom code from scratch for local businesses back when off-the-shelf software didn’t really exist. I was lucky enough to grow up right alongside him, learning the ropes from the time I was just around 10 years old.
When I took over the business in 1994, my focus was simple: keep it local and take care of our neighbors. Life eventually took me down some different paths. For the last two decades, I’ve been working behind the scenes as a programmer and network guy for some incredible local corporate operations, including the team at ProfitFab – the specialized software company my dad pioneered.
Even though full-time operations paused, I never really stopped helping out. Over the years, loyal CCS customers, friends, and neighbors have regularly reached out to me for tech support. I always did my best to help when I could, but those conversations made me realize how much I missed it.
Because I still maintain my primary programming work, I am easing back into things intentionally. CCS isn’t aiming to be a high-volume, 24/7 operation or a busy walk-in retail storefront. Instead, this is a return to a selective, independent side practice where I can dedicate time to a handful of local businesses and individuals who need technical help.
